God Prompts

This is a story about hearing God's voice in a brand new way and for something that, to be honest, I never really thought He would actually care to speak into.

I firmly believe that God speaks to us in personal ways. For me it would usually be a nagging feeling that I needed to do something, or the opposite - a peace that passed all understanding in the midst of turmoil. Sometimes He'd send others to confirm things or prompt me along the way. This particular time he spoke just 4 simple numbers - clear as day.

My wife and I live volunteering overseas but we often come home to Australia. We keep an old car with our parents to travel around in when we're there. On one occasion we arrived home to find the battery had run flat, an easy enough fix - charge it! 

We managed this easily enough, however we realised that the car's stereo system had reset itself and we needed a 4 digit pin to access it. Neither of us had even heard of needing a pin-code and searched the car's manual and the internet high and low to find a generic code. There was none. We decided to take it into a specialist, but they were going to charge a small fortune to take out the system and attempt to reset it. Being full-time volunteers we simply didn't have the money for that sort of thing.

For days we continued to try and guess the pin taking random shots at it with no luck. Finally, as my wife ducked into the grocery store I decided to pray - what harm could it do?

As I prayed a single number came into my mind clear as day. Had I not been so skeptical at the time I could have sworn I hit the keypad with an air of confidence. As I did, a second number came to mind, then a third and a fourth. Vwallah - it unlocked the system! 

From this time on I have never doubted that God does speak to us and for whatever the reason, He does so for the small, personal and seemingly insignificant things.
