Lost and Found

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’  Luke 15:8-9

There is one piece of gold that is round, belongs to a woman and if she loses it, will cause her to break into an absolute frenzy. This piece of gold usually has a sparkling diamond attached to it. Yes, the engagement ring! Here are a couple of true stories about finding lost diamonds or diamond rings from our teacup stories collection.

Hugh

Ruth’s eldest child has Aspergers. She took him to buy a pair of shoes. Ruth said, “And like everything I did for Hugh, it was an absolute nightmare for everyone concerned. On this day, it was especially nightmarish for the poor young salesgirl in the shoe shop. Mind you, she was absolutely lovely with him.”

Ruth said “We finally achieved our aim. We walked out of the shop. Hugh claiming the footpath, step by step, in his new shoes. However, before we had even passed the neighbouring shop Hugh started complaining. “These shoes are uncomfortable☹. These shoes are hurting my feet☹. I can’t wear these shoes☹.” He managed to repeat these phrases and varying versions of them all the way home. “Typical Hugh!”

On arriving home Ruth’s first task, after lobbing her bag and keys on the floor, was to take off Hugh’s new shoes. Off they came and to both their surprise, they found a diamond ring sitting in the bottom of one of his shoes. “What?!!”

You can only imagine the young salesgirl’s look of relief when we marched confidently into the shop that very same day, returning her ‘lost and found’ engagement ring. Not the shoes, as Hugh was finding them surprisingly comfortable by now. Hugh had also been humbly forgiven and aptly justified for his earlier outburst. Ruth noted Hugh made very little conversation for the remainder of the trip home.

Camille

The bridal party were still milling around the church waiting to have their photos taken. Jubilant guests had started to make their way to the reception venue. Camille, the mother of the bride, rummaged in her handbag trying to locate her mobile phone. Swipe, tap, made it. “Hello?” It was a rather excited Anna on the other end. She said, “Oh Camille, I have just discovered that my diamond ring is missing. I am fairly sure it will be where Michael dropped me off.” She explained exactly where that was in front of the church.

Camille walked over to the gutter where Anna had been dropped off and lo and behold, there it was! The priceless gem. Sitting quietly, humming gently, shinning brightly, waiting patiently to be found!
